Mera dil bhi aapka koi
Hindustan nahi... jispar aap hukumat kare! (My heart is not your India ...on
which you can rule). Remember this dialogue between Bigdha Shahzada Saleem
& Akbar in Mughal-e-Azam? Emperor Akbar may have failed in governing over
his son’s heart, but Anarkali’s graceful outfit ruled all over India after this
movie release. The frock like suits worn by Madhubala got their name – Anarkali’s Suits after her character’s
name past release of this blockbuster.
Anarkali
suits’ graceful magnificent look made it the style of the
era during that period. It became the
“must-have-it” outfit for our Grannies who were just young girls then. Girls
wearing flowing long umbrella frock kurtis having fine zardoji embroidery along
churidars and heavily embroidered dupattas were the common sight at the parties
of those times. But in a little while, they became old fashioned.
After their absence from
Indian wardrobes for almost two decades, Anarkali
suits made a grand comeback due to their irresistibly charming look. Again,
from bollywoody Maas to hollywoody bitiyas, all embraced these designer suits.
The eminent fashion designers like Neeta Lulla, Manish Malhotra and Sabsyachi have
also launched an eye-catching collection of the Anarkali suit in present
years. These suits are available in an extensive range from light casual wears
to heavy party wears and are fondly worn by little 4 years old ladies to silver
haired 60 years old girls.
Till present day, Anarkali suits have been marking their
notable presence in hundreds of bollywood movies and thousands of celebrity as
well as non celeb events. It will not be an exaggeration if I say that on the
behalf of all Indian women, I am thankful to Makhanlal and Company, the dress
designers of Mughal-e-Azam, for gifting such an appealing and elegant outfit to
us.
